What is Ink?
Ink is a natural or synthetic dyed liquid; used for drawing, printing, writing, tattooing etc. It is an ink formation that settles on the quality of it as per various customization needs. An ink is produced with the presence of several substances that includes pigments, dye, solvent, resin, luminescence, solubilizer, lubricants, binding agent, additives and many other matters. In case of even either of these materials of being flipped over with each other in view of distinct properties, the ink would vary in texture, density, type of colour, binding capacity, adhesiveness & durability; with altering consequences to the relevant means.
Types of Ink
The sort of ink is determined based on the balance of the drying approach; concluded by an amount and quality of a siccative essence used – a drying agent, in which air oxidation is a very important process. As per distinct drying capacity a type of ink is resolved. As per its distinctive nature of either getting dried earlier or longer, the ink is characterized. The evaporation of some substances in the ink such as solvent, water or alcohol helps the colour to stay behind on the particular medium, making sure a proper adhesion of other substances to shape the ink. The drying process depends on the type of carriers used in an ink, atmospheric moisture level & the surfaces on which the ink is applied; accordingly, there would be: water-based ink, lubricant-based ink or cellulose-based ink.
Application of Inks
The medium, on which the ink is functional, varies as per semi to high absorbent levels of the place. E.g. If an ink is soaked within the paper, meaning it is not efficient and chances are higher of it being spilled over out of the edges of papers. To address this issue, probably more rapidly drying agents should be utilized while making an ink. An ink made of solvents has a tendency of being dried quickly; and thus is the common ink used in printing. Paper thickness and size also affects a lot to the ink results as hard & densely coated papers go well with any ink property; encouraging a longer & non-spilling stay of an ink there.
The ink droplets are mattered to an electrostatic field; hence the electrostatic charge should be well distributed as per each droplet. The cellulose-based papers are naturally charged platforms, which best comply with the any type of dye and helps to get proper preservation of the paper; e.g. Inkjet printing ink. Some dye-based inks recover a permanent stay of any colours on the paper and are not vulnerable even with the water or alcohol based substances; e.g. fountain pen inks. An indelible ink has a very short lifespan as it has a very quick evaporative nature. Ink applications are broadly perceived in spheres such as Inkjet Printing Ink, Marker Ink, Fabric Printing Ink, Textile Printing Ink, Cartridge Ink and others as per needed & drop on demand basis!
